Princess Cruises’ spectacular Golden Princess will make history today as the first cruise ship to ever embark on an international roundtrip voyage from the state of South Australia, sailing roundtrip from Adelaide to New Zealand. The news follows an almost 20 per cent rise year on year in South Australian cruise ship guests.
“Cruising has never been more popular with South Australians. Over 75,000 South Australians took a cruise last year, a number which would almost fill the Adelaide Oval one and a half times over and represents 4.4% of the state’s population – that’s a higher penetration rate than the cruise markets in North America and Europe.” said Senior Vice President Princess Cruises Asia Pacific, Stuart Allison.
“Cruise is booming in the state and we hope this might be one of many more international Princess cruises sailing roundtrip from the state in the years to come.”
Last year the cruise industry contributed close to $100 million to the South Australian economy and with a 37 per cent increase in ships visiting the region this season, this number is set to surge.
Guests on the 17-night iconic international cruise from Adelaide across the ditch to New Zealand today will enjoy calls to Melbourne, Dunedin, Akaroa, Wellington, Gisborne, Tauranga and Auckland, as well as scenic cruising through New Zealand’s stunning Fiordland National Park. In addition to all the features onboard Golden Princess, guests will also enjoy Princess Cruises’ enhanced, award-winning Across the Ditch Program, designed to immerse guests in New Zealand culture and cuisine through a series of interactive and engaging onboard and shore activities.
