Option to remove Concordia

THE uprighted Costa Concordia may be lifted from the water by the world’s largest semi-submersible salvage vessel, the 275m-long Dockwise Vanguard. A $30 million deal has reportedly been made with a Dutch company to use the vessel as a possible option to move the shipwreck from off the coast of Italy’s Giglio island. The Vanguard would sink underneath the Concordia and then rise up to elevate it clear of the water before sailing it away to be scrapped.
