Princess Cruises is our
favourite line, according to a
vote by past passengers.
IN THIS YEAR’S ANNUAL POLL BY LOCAL CRUISING
community Oz Cruise Club, Princess Cruises
gained a significant increase in popularity
from last year, up by 13% to 47% of total
votes.
Last year’s winner, P&O Australia,
dropped to second, with 22% of votes,
despite the addition of Pacific Pearl in
December.
Royal Caribbean, which has only one ship
based in Sydney for half of the year,
remained in third place, slipping to 16%.
Supporting the winner’s outcome, OzCC
also reports increased activity in its Princess
Cruises “roll call” section over the past year,
where booked passengers communicate with
each other pre-cruise.
The upcoming introduction of Sea Princess
to Sydney this summer will bring the line’s
local fleet to four, and it will also base a ship
in Queensland for the first time, with Sun
Princess moving up to Brisbane next month.
Oz Cruise Club’s Geoff King thanked
members who voted in Australia’s only
online poll of cruise passengers.
“While our local market is going
gangbusters, I find it perplexing that we still
look toward overseas resources to tell us
how we should be cruising, and who we
should be cruising with,” he said.
“It is important that we have the
opportunity to voice our preferences.”
Looking forward to Australia’s busiest ever
season, King said next year’s poll would be
much bigger.
“Holland America and Celebrity both
increased their vote from last year, and with
both lines increasing their Australasian
presence later this year with Zaandam and
Century, they are bound to attract new
fans,” he said.
“It will also be interesting to see if the
addition of Radiance of the Seas later this
year, as well as the upcoming excitement of
Voyager of the Seas, can tempt more local
cruisers into Royal Caribbean’s camp.”
