GUESTS booked onboard the river
steamboat, American Queen’s 07 February and
15 February roundtrip voyages out of New
Orleans are being forced to change plans, after
the American Queen Steamboat Co announced
it had been forced to cancel the departures.
“This additional time in lay-up is needed to
custom-build a much stronger drive shaft with
a 40- to 50-year lifespan, as well as re-install
the iconic paddlewheel,” said Ted Sykes,
American Queen Steamboat Co President.
In addition to the paddlewheel, the ship is
also enjoying refurbishments such as updated
paint and wallpaper in staterooms and public
areas, as well as a makeover to the JM White
Dining Room and Engine Room Bar.
The ship is also being fitted out with a new
Front Porch Cafe.
According to the company, work will be
complete on American Queen by the end of
the season, and she will depart on her first
2013 voyage on 23 February.
Guests who have missed out on their 07 or
15 February sailings are being given the
opportunity to rebook on a selection of other
Upper Mississippi or Ohio River cruise
departures.
In addition, guests will also receive US$250
refund for the inconvenience.
