The blow torches blazed blue and burnt through the first steel plate to begin molding
Princess Cruise’s newest 141,000-ton baby, Royal Princess, last week, marking the beginning
of a long journey which is set to conclude with her launch in the Northern Hemisphere
spring of 2013.
Royal Princess will be the first of two new-generation ships for Princess Cruises, with the
cruise line saying she is “a natural progression in [the] fleet”.
“We’re taking the best features of our newest vessels that have been such customer
pleasers, and taking them to the next level,” said Princess President, Alan Buckelew.
As such, Royal Princess will feature larger, more expanded versions of Princess’ popular
Piazza atrium and adults-only haven, The Sanctuary; whilst her Movies-Under-The-Stars
poolside theatre will be expanded in both size and high definition viewing.
Brand new blockbuster features lined up include a top-deck glass-bottomed enclosed SkyWalk
which extends 28 feet beyond the edge of the vessel and 128-feet above the ocean on the
starboard side, whilst on her port side, she will feature a similarly cantilevered SeaView bar.
Royal Princess is also destined to feature an adults-only pool which will be surrounded by
seven plush private cabanas; as well as two additional pools which will flank a tropical
island with pool seating by day, and which will transform into an outside dance club of an
evening, complete with a dazzling water and light show.
In addition, all of Royal Princess’ outside staterooms will feature balconies.
