Carnival Australia ceo Ann
Sherry has praised a constructive
approach being taken by Asian
governments towards the cruising
industry, saying the region can be
one of the world’s biggest.
Sherry’s comments came at the
ASEAN Tourism Forum Minister’s
Meeting in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Forecasts show Asia is on a
high rate of growth, with current
cruise levels of 1.5 million pax
annually set to rise to four million
by 2017 & seven million by 2020.
Statistics show cruising in Asia
will rise 22% in terms of the
number of global cruises occurring
in Asia in the first quarter of 2014.
Sherry however warned that
overcapitalising on port facilities
could damage future growth.
“Cruise ships need channels
deep enough for safe passage
and piers to allow ships to berth
alongside [one another].
“Space and a welcoming
environment for passengers and
access to key local attractions
completes the requirements for an
effective cruise facility,” she said.
