Humanitarian aid, including tents, tarpaulins, bottled water, tinned food and industrial mulchers, has been unloaded from P&O Cruises’ superliner Pacific Dawn in Vanuatu this morning.
As the first cruise ship to arrive in Port Vila since Cyclone Pam, Pacific Dawn is supporting Save the Children Australia’s relief efforts in Vanuatu communities still recovering from the category five cyclone.
Passengers have watched the unloading in respectful silence and will be attending a special United for Vanuatu fundraising concert onboard. Due to the situation on the ground passengers are unable to disembark in Port Vila.
Sister ship Pacific Pearl is due to arrive on Saturday with a bigger aid shipment including building materials, more bottled water, long life food, safety gear, batteries and chainsaws.
