Cunard’s magnificent flagship has sailed from Sydney after an historic month which saw all three Cunard Queens visit the city including a spectacular rendezvous between Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria on the Harbour.
The three ships spent a total of six days in Sydney during March, with their combined 6500 guests injecting an estimated $3 million into the local economy.
Still the biggest ship to have visited Australia, the 151,400-tonne Queen Mary 2 looked striking against the backdrop of Sydney’s skyline as she sailed from Circular Quay last night en route to South Africa via Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle.
It was an encore visit for the 2600-guest ship following her second circumnavigation of New Zealand as part of her 113-night world voyage.
The harbour city can look forward to the return of the triumvirate next summer with Queen Mary 2 sailing into Sydney for a two-day stay on March 10, Queen Victoria making two visits on February 29 and again for an overnight stay on March 8, and Queen Elizabeth calling for two days on February 20, 2016.
