New expedition season introduces two new itineraries to Outer Shores’ collection of perennial favourites exploring Canada’s wild Pacific Coast
British Columbia’s leading sailing operator, Outer Shores Expeditions, has officially kicked-off their 2016 season this week, beginning with a 6-day/5-night expedition cruise of Pacific Rim National Park, which set sail from beautiful Ucluelet, B.C. on Tuesday, April 12.
Russell Markel, Captain and Founder, Outer Shores Expeditions, has designed two new itineraries to add to Outer Shores’ expedition collection this season, including the 9-day/8-night sailing of Canada’s Great Bear Sea, as well as Taste the Salish Sea, a unique 3-day/2-night weekend expedition focused on the region’s culinary delights.
Returning favourites include expeditions of the Haida Gwaii Archipelago, the Great Bear Rainforest, Pacific Rim National Park and Gulf Islands National Park.

“The Outer Shores crew and I are always excited to start another season sailing Canada’s Pacific Coast,” says Markel. “Each new season brings with it so many fascinating and unexpected events and encounters, each with the potential to become the highlight of our year. This region is so captivating that there’s no shortage of opportunities to experience something none of us has ever seen before.”
Guided by Outer Shores’ expert crew, guests explore Canada’s west coast aboard the classic 70-foot wooden schooner Passing Cloud. Built in Victoria in 1974, Passing Cloud was designed by William James Roué, Canada’s first naval architect and designer of the Bluenose, and was built by innovative ship building legend Brian Walker.
Days aboard Passing Cloud are filled with beach walks, island explorations, wildlife sightings, and immersive cultural experiences. Meals are central to daily activities, and like Outer Shores’ flexible itineraries, greatly influenced by what guests and crew encounter throughout the day. Guests frequently enjoy dining outside at the aft deck table, or inside around the large dining table in Passing Cloud’s gorgeous main salon.
