THE former captain of Costa Concordia,
Francesco Schettino, attended an Italian court
yesterday to hear the evidence against him in
relation to the shipwreck in Giglio in January in
which 32 people died.
The courtroom was a converted theatre, as
extra space was needed to accommodate the
number of people who turned up to see the
51-year-old, who made no comment during his
appearance.
Hearings this week will help decide whether
a trial will be ordered for Schettino, who is
charged with manslaughter, causing the
shipwreck and abandoning ship.
