The release of data and statistics will
cause many to roll their eyes!
Boring as this subject may appear,
sensible business decisions are made using
reliable and qualified information.
An annual function of the ICCA is to
collect passenger information from each
cruise line based around where, when and
how many Aussies and Kiwi’s are cruising
around the world.
The full 2010 report on the Australian
cruise industry will be released on board
Rhapsody of the Seas next Monday (4th
April) however yesterday the ICCA released
a report on the New Zealand market to
both media and trade on board Pacific
Dawn.
No doubt there will be some reference to
this report elsewhere in Cruise Weekly but
in putting this all together over the last few
weeks it was interesting to note that in
2010 New Zealand cruise passengers lead
the world in growth!
With 42,886 Kiwi’s taking a cruise in
2010, this represented growth of 37% –
larger than any other key cruise source
market in the world.
So now the Kiwi’s have something else
to boast about – aside from making it
further than Australia in the cricket World Cup!
OK, so the overall numbers are not
comparable but this is still a mighty
achievement from a population of only 4.4
million.
North American cruise passenger
numbers were released last week revealing
6% growth from the world’s largest source
market that is now close to 11 million.
Keep an eye out early next week to see
how the Australian market performed in
2010.
