CW has spent the last few days discovering the delights of the city of Vienna. An amazing old city with an incredible wealth of history, architecture and art to explore. But there are so many unique experiences to be had by visitors. We have had fun trying a few of the ‘not so touristy’ experiences. Here are some of our suggestions for your next visit to Vienna.
Take a cooking class at Kochsalon Wrenkh. Wrenkh is one of the city’s great eateries specialising in vegetarian and organic meat and fish dishes. Workshops run on weekends with changing topics such as vegetarian and Viennese cuisine, as well as a Strudel workshop. www.wiener-kochsalon.com/workshops-in-english.html
For something a bit different Polawalk offers tours with vintage Polaroid cameras. After a quick lesson on how to use the camera the tour takes you through some of Vienna’s popular neighbourhoods, where photo opportunities abound! Leave Vienna with a unique souvenir of polaroid snaps. www.polawalk.com
Take a bicycle or Segway tour around the city. Easy to get around, because there are no hills and the city has 1200km’s of designated bike lanes. A great way to get an overview of the city sites. See www.pedalpower.at or www.segway-vienna.at
For a truly Viennese experience see an opera at the Vienna State Opera. There are performances nearly 300 nights a year and never the same opera 2 nights in a row. Visit www.wiener-staatoper.at for performance details.
If your River cruise starts or finishes in Vienna stay a few extra days to discover this fabulous city.
