Today, TD Cruise Update chats to The Love Boat Captain Gavin MacLeod.
How did you get your start on The Love Boat?
It’s very simple. Producer Aaron Spelling called me and I said yes. It was just like that.
How does it compare to “real” ships you have been on recently?
The Love Boat was much smaller.
What do think is the best thing about modern cruising?
Escaping the pressures of daily life.
How many cruises have you been on?
I really don’t know – way too many to count!
Have you ever had a romance at sea?
On every cruise my wife, Patti, has travelled on with me.
How do you spend days at sea?
Mixing with passengers, reading, taking photos and exercising.
What would your favourite shore excursion be from your years of cruising?
I love Venice and apart from the incredible history and gorgeous landmarks, my
favourite place to visit is the Hotel Danieli.
What do you think of Australia as a destination?
One of the best! The people are the warmest!
What is the purpose of your visit this year?
I’m here on a “Love Boat Down Under” tour to share the love with some very special
vow renewal ceremonies in Sydney and Auckland in the lead up to Valentine’s Day
Apart from ambassador for Princess, what would be your dream job in the cruise
industry?
Being the CEO of Princess Cruises!
If you could name a ship, what would you call it?
Patti Princess, after my beloved wife.
Gavin’s Cruise Favourites!

Favourite perk of the job: Seeing the world
