For the first time in two and a half years, the Costa Concordia has returned to the open ocean.
Towing has now begun on the refloated Costa Concordia hull as it moves from its former home off the coast of Giglio, bound for the scrapyard in Genoa, Italy.
This photo was posted on the Twitter account of the salvage team who have worked for the last two years uprighting and stabilising the ship for the journey.
Thirty-two people died after the Concordia ran aground and capsized in Jan 2012.
