AS if things
couldn’t get
any worse for
Costa Cruises
after the
catastrophic
Costa
Concordia crash off the coast of Italy during
Feb, this morning the company has confirmed
that its Costa Allegra is currently drifting
without power in the centre of a pirateinfested
region of the Indian Ocean.
Allegra (pictured above)which has 636
passengers and 413 crew members on board,
has sent a distress signal after suffering a fire
in its electrical generator room about 200
miles off the coast of the Seychelles.
The shipboard fire system and emergency
procedures were activated promptly, with no
injuries reported and the fire quickly contained
before spreading to any other part of the ship.
However there’s no power onboard, and
“tugboats and other naval and aerial units
have been dispatched” to render assistance.
A French ocean-going fishing ship has now
reached Costa Allegra but tugboats aren’t
expected to arrive until tomorrow.
