Join Aussie cricketing legend Ian Healy on a fabulous jaunt to Europe, centred on a 13-night cruise to Spain, Portugal and the Canary Islands aboard Royal Caribbean International’s brand new Anthem of the Seas.
Worldwide Cruise Centres is selling this exclusive 19-day escorted fly-cruise-and-stay holiday under the title ‘Anthem, Sunshine in the Canaries’. It starts with a two-night stay in the heart of London, including a welcome group dinner hosted by ‘Heals’ himself.
‘Anthem, Sunshine in the Canaries’ costs from A$6998 per person twin share, valid at that rate until 20 May 2015 or until sold out, whichever takes place first.
The fun starts on 12 September 2015 with a flight from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth to London, followed by a two-night stay at the Kensington Close Hotel and Spa.
The hotel has a stunning private garden and its health club and spa includes full-length swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, treatment rooms and gymnasium. The location is perfect: on the doorstep of Kensington Gardens and High Street Kensington; 25 minutes away from Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus. At leisure in London, maybe have a pint in a Hampstead pub, stroll across the Thames on the Millennium Bridge, or visit Lord’s, home of cricket.
Then transfer from London to Southampton to board Anthem of the Seas. This is a ship with wow-factor – so new, its launch-date is this month, April 2015. The second ship in Royal Caribbean’s Quantum class, Anthem of the Seas features newly designed accommodation, game-changing technology and groundbreaking venues. Its 2090 cabins include 375 virtual balconies – inside cabins featuring real-time views of the ocean and destinations visited. Royal Caribbean promises “the best dining ever”, plus celebrity experts in fields such as design, sports, fitness and entertainment.
All shipboard main meals (excluding speciality restaurants) are included and gratuities are covered as well, so you can forget about tipping aboard ship.
Anthem of the Seas’ innovations include the first-ever sky-diving simulator at sea and North Star, a jewel-shaped capsule that gently ascends to 100 metres above sea level for breathtaking 360° views. Play basketball, go roller skating, ride dodgem cars – or just relax and take it easy with a book in the Two70° lounge and come back at night for a spectacular aerial show. Jump into the ship’s Pool Zone, complete with cantilevered whirlpools and a thrilling zip-line view of the ship and sea below.
Destinations ashore on the 13-night cruise (which begins and ends in Southampton) are no less exciting.
First port of call is the Spanish port of Vigo, located just north of Portugal and known for its sparkling beaches, including Samil, Alcabre and Canido.
Then, the island of Madeira in the Atlantic Ocean, about 600km off the coast of Morocco. Beneath rugged volcanic peaks, along beautiful tropical coastline, Madeira lace and Madeira wine are both still produced in the Old World way.
Next, the Canary Islands, named not after birds but dogs, from canis, Latin for dog. Diverse local culture in these Spanish islands is a blend of Spanish, African, Latin American and Northern European communities. The ship visits the islands of Lanzarote (with three distinct climates and landscapes, including snow-capped mountains and tropical forests), Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Next, you’ll visit the graceful Portuguese capital of Lisbon, with its bustling Rossio Square, and Bilbao in Spain. Maybe visit the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum or stroll the stunning glass-decked parabolic arch footbridge above the Nervión River.
Other highlights: an exclusive cocktail party aboard ship with Ian and Helen Healy, and ‘Have a chat with the Heals’, an invitation to an afternoon with Ian. Maybe ask Ian about the first Test against Pakistan at Rawalpindi in 1998. Heals broke Rod Marsh’s world record of 355 dismissals when he caught Wasim Akram from the bowling of Colin Miller.
Disembarking in Southampton, transfer to London for the flight back to Australia after a truly memorable holiday.
