Industry disappointed once again at ongoing inaction on cruise.
A meeting of National Cabinet today has once again noted work by cruise lines and some states towards a cruise restart, but has not given any indication about the lifting of the current ban on foreign passenger shipping.
A formal statement from the meeting released this evening simply noted “positive progress by the eastern states and the cruise industry to develop appropriate health protocols and common guidelines to support a safe return to cruising in their jurisdictions over the coming months,” but provided no additional information to help the industry plan for a restart.
With the current ban in place until 17 April, there’s speculation that little further progress will be able to be made, with this having possibly been the last National Cabinet meeting prior to an election being called. Pundits expect the most likely date for the upcoming Federal poll to be 14 May.
