The cruise line said the Red Sea crisis has made conditions for repositioning to Australia too unsafe.
Virgin Voyages has cancelled its 2024/25 Australian season for Resilient Lady, citing “potential escalations in the Red Sea” over the next 12 months.
The cruise line had originally committed to a second season in Australia, however the crisis in the high-traffic inlet “puts unacceptable risks for safe passage through the region for our sailors, crew and vessel”, Virgin said.
“To say that we are disappointed to have come to this tough conclusion is an understatement,” Virgin said in a statement.
The cruise line said it is currently working through options to return to Australia and the Asia Pacific region once repositioning opportunities become more tenable.
