In episode one, Ray explored Mandalay, Myanmar’s second largest city and home to over 700 pagodas. This weekend’s episode follows Ray to Myinmu then traveling across the countryside exploring the sandstone grottoes; visiting Yandabo where the peace treaty ending the First Anglo-Burmese war was signed in 18926 now famous for its pottery and finally Bagan. The astounding temples in Bagan are visited including the most iconic sight of this hypnotic region, the impressive Ananda Temple.
The final instalment takes viewers to Salay, once a very important British seaport; Magwe’s, an old market town rarely visited by tourists as explored by trishaw; the quaint port town of Thayetmyo, home to the oldest golf course in Myanmar before arriving in Yangon. Ray shops at the city’s Bogyoke Aung San Market for handicrafts and crosses the Yangon River by ferry to Dhala village for a Scenic Freechoice activities. As the sun sets, Ray wanders around Shwedagon Pagoda followed by a Scenic Enrich experience – learning about the ritual of ‘oil lamp lighting’ then partaking in this local tradition.
