OCEANWIDE Expeditions newest Ross Sea
Exploratory voyage takes guests to the
southern Antarctic Peninsula, the rarely visited
volcanic Peter I Island, the outer fringes of the
pack-ice in the Amundsen Sea, Ross Sea and
Macquarie Island.
The 30-night voyage departs Ushuaia, Argentina,
on 16 January 2013 and will also visit the
landing site of Roald Amundsen, (from where
he gained access to the ice-shelf and reached
the South Pole in 1911), and will give guests
the chance to explore Shackleton’s huts.
The voyage will conclude in Invercargill, NZ,
on 15 February 2013, with a second identical
itinerary departing later that same day in reverse.
The expeditions will take place onboard the
22-year old MV Ortelius which carries the
highest ice-class notation (UL1 equivalent to
1A), and can carry 100 passengers.
