The best gift you can give your family and yourself is the gift of time together and adventures. One Ocean Expeditions offers the best adventures out there, starting by a memorable expedition Christmas cruise to Antarctica.
Celebrate a white Christmas while cruising in the most pristine environment on the planet, surrounded by an abundance of wildlife that takes your breath away. The relatively short 11-day voyage fits nicely within a two week vacation period, and OOE are outstanding when it comes to carrying youth to such remote areas. This expedition to the Antarctic Peninsula packs a serious punch and offers a diverse selection of soft adventure activities on and off the ship that will leave lasting memories.
Each day travelers explore by walking on shore, observing wildlife colonies, zodiac cruising to photograph icebergs and wildlife, not to mention soaking up the incredible surrounding landscapes. Intrepid adventurers explore via zodiac and/or kayak excursions to landing sites and cruise among the ice floes and impressive icebergs of all shapes, colors and sizes. Daily photographic excursions take place, as well as guided hikes on continent landings and surrounding islands. The in-house photographer runs daily workshops and one-on-one reviews to help improve photographic skills. Interactive workshops (onboard and onshore) are led by OOE’s team of professionals including a geologist, historian, naturalists and Antarctic specialists.
The journey begins in Punta Arenas, Chile on a new charter flight to Stanley, Falkland Islands’ quaint capital where the cruise departs. Whilst crossing the Scotia sea south to Antarctica, guests witness the magnificent pelagic seabirds of the southern region, including the giant wandering albatross. Once along the Antarctic Peninsula the itinerary incorporates multiple excursions per day including all of Antarctica’s ‘hotspots’, the Gerlache Strait, Lemaire Channel and potentially the iceberg graveyard where some of the peninsulas largest icebergs get grounded. For those eager to camp on the snow, this is also an option on this voyage.
The adventure is not over until we visit the South Shetland Islands, including Deception Island. Travelers then disembark the ship at King George Island and fly back to Punta Arenas, Chile in just two hours – saving more than two days crossing the open waters of the Drake Passage.
Rest assured throughout the voyage the holiday spirit soars with One Ocean Expeditions’ nurturing staff that pamper and keep guests entertained. This family-friendly travel adventure offers quality time and a social detox far away from the hustle and bustle of daily life… what better Christmas gift can you ask for!
