CARNIVAL Magic sailed into her new
year-round homeport of Galveston, Texas, to
mass celebrations on Sunday.
A crowd of 4,000 eager Texans greeted Magic
at Galveston’s Pier 21, and rocked out to a free
hour-long performance by rock superstars
Maroon 5.
Yesterday, following the festivities, Magic
departed on her inaugural week-long
Caribbean cruise.
From her new home waters Magic will host
two different week-long itineraries, including
seven-day western Caribbean voyages to
Montego Bay, Grand Cayman and Cozumel,
and week-long eastern Caribbean cruises to
Nassau, Freeport and Key West.
“Today marks a big day for Carnival Cruise
Lines as we introduce the spectacular new
Carnival Magic to its U.S. homeport of
Galveston, Texas,” said Gerry Cahill, Carnival
Cruise Lines’ president and CEO.
Magic is not the only Carnival ship to
homeport year-round from Texas, with
Carnival Triumph having launched four- and
five-day cruises from Galveston last month.
Together the pair represent the largest-ever
capacity commitment by a cruise line to Texas,
with Carnival saying it expects to carry more
than 450,000 guests annually from the port.
