Fancy a ‘seafood safari’ around the delightful Eyre Peninsula!
Just once a year the TRUE NORTH plies the seasonally placid waters of the South Australian coast.
The upcoming adventure starts in Adelaide on January 12 and concludes 8 nights later (with a return flight from Ceduna).
And this year’s Southern Safari features a brand new Day One!
Join your cruise director in Adelaide for a short coach ride to Magill Estate – home of the iconic Penfolds label and opportunity for a not-to-be-missed tour and tasting experience.
Next stop is the famed Barossa Valley and this year’s feature winery – Seppeltsfield!
The Seppeltsfield story dates back to 1851 and since 1878 they have produced an unbroken lineage of Tawny. A private tasting in the Trophy Cellar is bound to be another first day highlight!
Scrumptious midday dining will follow at ‘Fino’ in Seppeltsfield’s original bottling hall and after lunch join your fellow adventurers in the Jam Factory – an amazing art gallery housed in Seppeltsfield’s historic stables and featuring artisans in residence.
Then it’s a short coach ride back to Adelaide and time to welcome all aboard the mighty TRUE NORTH!
Not a bad way to start an itinerary that also includes bucket-list Kangaroo Island, cage diving with great white sharks, swimming with giant tuna, oysters and champagne in Coffin Bay and, some of Australia’s most reliable in-shore fishing!
The Culture of Climate!
The Aboriginal people of Australia have a much more pragmatic attitude to the changing of the seasons – their very existence once depended greatly on timely adaption to changes in the weather and, in the Kimberley – the Yawuru people have always referred to not four but six seasons:
Mankala – December, January, February and March (the wet season)
Marul – April (when the winds are still)
Wirralburu – May (the cooling period, when the winds are dry)
Barrgana – June, July and August (when it is cooler and sometimes foggy in the morning)
Wirlburu – September (starting to warm but still dry)
Larja – October and November (when it’s hot and the humidity is high)
These are the seasons that continue to shape this great land and, all those who live there!
And soon it will be Mankala – the most dramatic season of them all!
Mankala brings the spectacular thunderstorms, the thundering rains and the tropical temperatures.
And when Mankala ends it will be Marul – the waterfall season.
Marul is also when the bloodwoods flower, when the sand paper fig and wild prune fruit, when the birds fly relentless between blossom and when the lizards are slow with rainy season girth.
Marlu is the season of plenty and, it is also when the mighty TRUE NORTH returns to the Kimberley!
With only limited sailings available during this special time – make sure you don’t miss out!
