THE uprighted Costa Concordia may be lifted
from the water by the world’s largest semi-submersible
salvage vessel, the 275m-long
Dockwise Vanguard.
A $30 million deal has reportedly been made
with a Dutch company to use the vessel as a
possible option to move the shipwreck from
off the coast of Italy’s Giglio island.
The Vanguard would sink underneath the
Concordia and then rise up to elevate it clear
of the water before sailing it away to be
scrapped.
The operation would be the biggest salvage
ever attempted on a ship of its size.
Meanwhile, since moving the Concordia into
an upright position last month, divers have
found the remains of one of two people who
were still unaccounted for, BBC reports.
