Shore excursions to the Isle
of Pines’ Natural Aquarium are
hopeful of resuming in “a month
or so”, after important ecological
work is carried out, P&O Cruises
has told TD Cruise Update.
The line has discontinued the
shore excursion at the Isle of
Pines in the meantime, with the
ecologist expected to be in place
to begin their work in a fortnight.
P&O said: “A respected ecologist
who provided valuable advice
regarding the protection of Jinek
Bay at Lifou and other locations
in the Pacific Islands has been
commissioned to provide advice
on ways to safeguard the Natural
Aquarium on Isle of Pines”.
The purpose of the review was
to ensure the sustainability of
the site in the wake of increasing
passenger numbers to the
popular area,” P&O continued.
“In the meantime I think
passengers will understand
the environmental protection
considerations that are at the
heart of this issue,” P&O added.
