P&O CRUISES is preparing to celebrate a
major milestone, with its three millionth
passenger expected to board one of its
Australian ships this month.
And cruisers will also be celebrating, with the
cruise line launching an “unprecedented” $3
million cash back campaign, giving passengers
a bonus of up to $200 on cruises booked from
17 September to 12 November 2011 departing
from Brisbane, Sydney, Newcastle, Auckland
and Fremantle.
Carnival Australia ceo said the achievement
of 3 million passengers was “testament to the
enormous growth of cruising in Australia in
recent years”.
She said the cruise line had calculated
passenger numbers back to the resumption of
cruising following the Second World War, and
found that 30% of the 3 million total had
travelled in the last four years.
Of P&O’s current fleet Pacific Sun has carried
the most passengers, with over 500,000
holidaymakers onboard since its 2004 arrival.
The lucky 3 millionth passenger will be
travelling on a cruise in late September, but
P&O said it wouldn’t be able to confirm their
identity until closer to departure as passenger
lists are finalised.
