A reality TV-style campaign
will see Australia’s most
reluctant cruisers filmed
at sea.
P&O HAS CREATED A COMPETITION TO LURE
‘landlubbers’ to experience their first cruise,
which will be filmed and broadcast on the
internet.
The campaign will target people who are
afraid of cruising, worried about seasickness
or simply hate the idea of a holiday at sea.
The cruise line plans to send the top six
entrants – and their companions or families
– on a nine-night Pacific Islands voyage to
face, and hopefully conquer, their fears.
“We know from our research that some
people hesitate to take a cruise because
they are concerned about getting seasick.
“Others think they’ll be bored, and there
are some who don’t want to spend days
getting to a destination,” said Jenny Lourey,
senior vice president of Carnival Australia.
“They’re exactly the kind of people we
want to enter this competition,” she added.
Australian residents need to upload a
video or photos accompanied by 200 words
explaining their reservations about cruising.
The best entries will win the free cruise for
two adults, or a family of two adults and two
children, with P&O filming their experiences
onboard.
The footage will be available for the public
to view on the P&O Australia website, as
well as the P&O Cruises YouTube channel.
“We’re confident that once we put people
with such doubts on a cruise they’ll change
their perception of cruising – and by
producing videos on their experiences we’ll
help change the minds of thousands of
others,” Lourey said.
Entries open today, with the cruise line
calling for recruits through newspaper ads
as well as through its website, blog and
Facebook pages.
The competition closes at 11:59pm (EST)
on 24 July 2011.
