TOGETHER forever.
The right-hand man of Ernest Shackleton,
Frank Wild, has finally had his last request
met, having been laid to rest alongside his
best friend 72 years after he passed away.
Wild met his end in South Africa in 1939 and
was cremated by his widow so that he could
be laid to rest in the whaler’s graveyard in
Grytviken, South Georgia, beside Shackleton.
Plans changed however with the outbreak
of WWII and the supposed loss of Wild’s
remains, which were recently located in
Braamfontein cemetery by an historian.
Wild was reunited with Shackleton last week
in a small ceremony attended by his family.
