SERIOUS safety.
In the wake of Costa Concordia it seems
cruise lines are taking safety really
seriously, and rightly so.
In fact, so serious is Holland America Line
about safety, that it actually kicked off a
guest over the weekend for “non-compliance”
during a mandatory evacuation drill.
According to reports the unnamed
passenger failed to turn up for a pre-cruise
safety briefing and evacuation drill onboard
HAL’s ms Westerdam in Fort Lauderdale,
prior to her Caribbean cruise departure.
The safety infringement meant the guest
was kicked off the ship before she set sail.
The passenger ousting comes after HAL
reinstated its policy of taking a passenger
roll-call during the safety drill, a measure
which had been discontinued until the
Concordia disaster.
This “new” policy is now being
highlighted via onboard announcements, in
which the cruise line says guests face ship
eviction for not turning up to safety drills.
