HONG Kong travel agent
firm Miramar Travel is in
negotiations with the leader of
a passenger group who led an
impromptu mutiny against the
agency while aboard a Costa
Cruises vessel recently.
The passenger managed to
round up enough support from
fellow passengers to stage the
protest against a last-minute
decision by crew to skip a port-of-
call at Halong Bay, Vietnam.
A smaller ship that had sunk
in the harbour forced the Costa
Victoria vessel back to sea as it
could not dock, however this
did not sit well with passengers.
Not happy with compensation
offers from Miramar Travel, the
passengers staged a 17-hour
sit-in on the vessel before
the agency upped its offer to
HK$300, still less than one-third
of the original cruise price.
Protest ringleader Cheung Hokun
said the passengers should
not be blamed for their actions,
however Costa Cruises has not
ruled out a lawsuit against the
group for delaying the vessel.
The six-day cruise departed
Hong Kong and was on a voyage
to Sanya, Danang & Halong Bay.
