A GROWING number of “senior” travellers
are embracing social media and more modern
forms of communication as a way of keeping
in touch with family and friends back home,
according to a Princess Cruises survey.
The study of 1000 Aussie parents aged over
50 found only 28% preferred to send postcards
back home while on holidays – as opposed to
32% who used Facebook and 58% who chose
to communicate via text messages.
Skype is also growing in popularity, with the
online phone calls now the desired method of
staying in touch of 23% of respondents.
More than 80% documented their holidays
via digital cameras, with growing numbers
admitting to bringing iPads, smartphones and
even tweeting while onboard to stay in touch.
