EILEEN Walford has seen a lot in her lifetime: WWI, WWII, the invention of television, computers, the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, fall of the Berlin wall, the birth of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her great-great grandchildren, so it’s no surprise that she wanted to celebrate her 100th birthday in style, onboard P&O’s Pacific Sun. The chipper centurion, who has lived in Craigie in Perth’s northern suburbs since immigrating to Australia more than 30 years ago, has been on 14 cruises in her lifetime and says she has absolutely no plans to stop sailing the seven seas now that she’s past the magic 100 mark. Eilen was accompanied onboard by her son and daughter-in-law, and told cruisers that the key to longevity is to “Do a good turn every day, eat nice food but little amounts and follow that with a glass of sherry.” To celebrate her big day P&O organised a special presentation from the ship’s crew, and also took her and her family on a personal tour of the bridge. Pictured above is Pacific Sun’s Captain Trevor Lane with his deck officers hosting Eileen and her family on the bridge.
