SILVERSEA Cruises has purchased Canodros,
a South American travel company which
operates cruises in the Galapagos Islands
onboard the luxury Galapagos Explorer II.
According to Silversea, the company now
plans to add the 100-guest Galapagos Explorer
II to its six-ship fleet next year (under a new
name), following a major refurbishment
scheduled for September 2013.
The 4077-ton Galapagos Explorer II is
described as a mega-yacht, which offers 50
spacious suites with ocean views, and 24
which include private balconies.
The vessel also sports a restaurant, piano bar,
library and internet station, main lounge,
outdoor bar, two outdoor whirlpools, and a
marine observation deck.
Until the vessel enters the Silversea fleet late
next year, it will continue to operate its
planned schedule of cruises under the
Canodros banner, whilst the Ecuadorian travel
company will also continue to handle
reservations for the vessel.
In a statement regarding the acquisition,
Silversea said the addition of a second
expedition vessel to the Silversea fleet offering
year-round expedition cruises in the Galapagos
archipelago, means it can offer the adventure
traveller “a broader portfolio of itineraries
encompassing some of the world’s most
desired and least explored regions”.
Currently Silversea’s expedition ship, Silver
Explorer, is regularly deployed in the colder
polar regions.
