Silversea Expeditions has released a small number of prized suites on its exclusive Northwest Passage voyage aboard the intimate Silver Explorer. The once in a lifetime expedition is scheduled to embark on its 23-day journey on 9 August 2014.
Guests will follow in the footsteps of explorer Roald Amundsen to become one of the very few individuals to travel the Northwest Passage – the famed shipping route that connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Canadian Arctic.
Silver Explorer will set sail from Kangerlussuaq, Greenland on 9 August 2014, arriving in the Alaskan port of Nome, USA on 1 September 2014. The vessel will call at the remote Greenlandic towns of Sisimiut, Ilulissat, and Uummannaq, before arriving in Canadian waters and exploring such destinations as Dundas Harbour and Crocker Bay on Devon Island, Prince Leopold Island and Beechey Island. Days 10 through to 21 of the voyage will be a flexible itinerary through the Northwest Passage – a route through deep channels north of the Arctic Circle that begins near Baffin Island and ends in the Beaufort Sea, north of Alaska.
Along the way, guests will discover the unique cultures of the Greenlandic, Inuit and Pre-Dorset people; meet a sled dog team and their owners; cruise alongside spectacular icebergs and view one of the world’s fastest moving glaciers; see the winter camp and final resting place of the Franklin expedition; hunt for million-year-old fossils, and hike across barren tundra landscapes. A dazzling array of wildlife can be spotted along the route, with possible sightings of polar bears, musk ox, caribou, lemmings and Arctic hares, as well as colonies of nesting seabirds, snowy owls, rough-legged hawks, gyrfalcons and Peregrine falcons, and sea life including wales and walruses.
Karen Christensen, General Manager & Director Sales/Marketing, Australasia, says that the suites will offer a select number of travellers the opportunity to experience this incredible region.
“Silver Explorer’s 2014 Northwest Passage itinerary is by far one of the most popular Expedition voyages and with very limited availability, guests wanting to join this Arctic adventure will need to be act quickly ,” says Christensen.
Aboard Silver Explorer, a team of expert Naturalists, Polar Historians, Marine Biologists and Geologists will be on hand to share their extensive knowledge of the region, and a fleet of Zodiacs will allow for thrilling up-close explorations. The flexible itinerary will allow the ship to stay longer at sites of particular interest, or make slight detours whenever weather, nature or mere curiosity dictate.
All-inclusive cruise only fares for this unique voyage start from AU$39,650 per person, double occupancy.
Silversea Expedition fares include all-suite accommodation with butler service; shore excursions, gourmet meals with menus designed by Relais & Châteaux, complimentary wines, Champagne and spirits served throughout the ship, and all gratuities.
