Travel from the northernmost town on Earth set in extremely remote wilderness, down the west coast of Greenland, past glaciers and icebergs to emerald-lawned fjords of the south. Explore areas which tourists normally can’t reach, and discover the secrets of Greenland’s west coast from top to bottom!
This expedition is a private charter of the specialist expedition vessel M/S Kisaq to journey down the west coast of Greenland, starting in Qaanaaq (also called Thule) in the northwest (in the high Arctic), down to Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.
With maximum of 12 people, plus Greenland-specialist expedition leader / guide. The charter is for 19 days, starting in Qaanaaq on August 2nd, arriving into Nuuk on August 20th.
THE ITINERARY
You will fly to Qaanaaq (Thule) on July 28th by a commercial flight with Air Greenland. The M/S Kisaq will depart Qaanaaq (Thule) on August 2nd, and will travel south down the west coast of Greenland with stops each day at interesting villages, wildlife locations and landscape highlights (depending upon the interest of the group) and will arrive into Nuuk on August 20th.
Dedicating the entirety of the 19 days to the journey between Qaanaaq (Thule) and Nuuk.
– See abandoned Norse and Inuit settlements and hanging glaciers, all set amongst jagged, granitic peaks.
– See narwhals, killer whales, ringed seals, harp seals, beluga, possibly walruses, bearded seals and hooded seals.
– Encounter small communities that depend on fishing and hunting, with an authentic and slow pace of life.
– See one of the world’s most active glaciers. There you can try a “Greenland buffet” including seal meat, musk oxen, caribou, local fish, whale steak, raw whale skin, kirioq – rotten birds left to cure in a seal carcass – and even the meat of polar bears, which the Inuit hunt. Or you can dogsled under the midnight Sun.
– We can do a helicopter trip over the immense glacier. Even sleep on a glacier!
– Visit a fishing village which marks the southernmost point of the range of the walrus. In Sisimiut, we can go dogsledding. There are also ski slopes, snow mobile treks, PADI diving courses, and regularly encounters with whales.
EXPEDITION COST AU$8,915.00 per person
Includes: all food and accommodation and the employment of a specialist Greenland-expert guide for the duration of the journey.
Excludes: There will be optional activities, such as dogsledding, visiting museums, helicopter trips. One way transfer North between from Kangerlussuaq to Qaanaaq (Thule) to start the charter. Any pre/post travel or accommodation. And any extra activities that you choose to undertake during visits to settlements during the itinerary of the charter trip.
