Australia’s summer cruise season is ready for take-off, following a spectacular “touch down” by the international superliner Majestic Princess in Sydney on Saturday morning.
The largest Princess Cruises’ ship ever to visit Australia, Majestic Princess arrived in Sydney shortly after sunrise, sailing into her new homeport along an illuminated runway, created to celebrate her debut on the city’s harbour.
The newest ship in Princess Cruises’ fleet, Majestic Princess is the first international ship to visit Australia for the nation’s busy summer cruise season.
The 3560-guest ship will be based in Sydney for six months, carrying more than 50,000 Australian and international travellers on 16 different roundtrip cruises from the city.
At 143,700 tonnes, Majestic Princess is equivalent in size to 126 Sydney Manly ferries, while her height of more than 68 metres makes her taller than the Sydney Opera House and too large to sail under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
