Systems to reduce carbon emissions from
cruise ships will be installed on Carnival Cruise
Lines’ fleet, the line has announced.
The line will commit US$180 million to the
project, which consists of the installation of
exhaust gas cleaning technology via the use of
scrubber systems in restricted spaces.
Other Carnival Corporation brands to receive
the systems will include Cunard, Princess
Cruises, Holland America Line and Princess
Cruises, with the move backed by the US
Environmental Protection Agency.
In addition to cleaner exhausts, the move will
also see Carnival Corporation reduce its fuel
consumption and curb rising fuel costs.
Carnival Corporation has said it will explore
the possibility of installing the technology
on the remainder of its fleet, with numerous
other brands operating around the world.
