HAVING a whale of a time.
An Australian couple, enjoying a quiet
night in their yacht off the coast of
Queensland got up close and personal with
nature after their anchor rope caught in a
humpback whale’s mouth.
According to reports Glenn Wilson and
Nerida Higgins’ boat was moored off Fraser
Island when the whale grabbed the rope
and dragged their yacht 3kms out to sea.
Travelling at around 10 knots, the
terrifying trip took 15 minutes, and only
concluded when a second whale grabbed
the rope and began to pull also, forcing
Wilson to cut the rope.
The pair said they had called the coast
guard, police and nearby boats for help, but
were thought to be having a joke.
“We were hoping to see some whales but
not actually that close,” said Wilson.
