The Australian company behind
the new Cruiseco Explorer is
committed to helping the local
Burmese community.
Const ructi on has commenced on a
56-passenger vessel, which is due to operate
on the Irrawaddy, Upper Irrawaddy and
Chindwin rivers from October 2014.
Steve Lloyd, ceo, Cruiseco, said work was
“well underway” on the company’s second
custom-built vessel, as well as its communityminded
itineraries.
“The Cruiseco Explorer is about more than
travelling in style,” he said.
“Maintaining our policy from the Cruiseco
Adventurer, which operates along the Mekong,
we continue to be committed to supporting
local communities by employing from the local
areas.”
The ship’s crew are “extremely
knowledgeable” about Myanmar’s culture and
history,” Lloyd added.
“It’s our aim to be able to contribute to the
country’s infrastructure and share the local
people’s lives with our passengers in an equal
and open way.
“We will continue to only employ staff
members who come from the local region as
we work to offer shared experiences between
our passengers and the Burmese people.”
The traditional-style two-decked ship has
polished timber floors, an outside sun deck,
a bar and a restaurant serving Burmese and
western cuisine.
The 28 “luxurious” cabins offer double or
twin accommodation and feature ensuite
bathrooms and either floor-to-ceiling windows
or exterior balconies.
Cruiseco Explorer will sail for seven nights,
departing from Prome or Mandalay as part of
11-night holiday itineraries.
Priced from $4,899 per person, the package
also includes return economy airfare from
Australia; four nights’ hotel accommodation,
all onboard meals including wine with
lunch and dinner; local beers; soft drinks;
sightseeing, transfers and gratuities.
The inaugural sailing is scheduled to depart
on 21 October 2014, with earlybird discounts
of up to $500 per person, valid for bookings
made until 31 December 2013.
