Exploring the world solo can result in
some of the most memorable experiences
and adventures, so here’s a few tips to help
you navigate going it alone.
• Travelling solo can be expensive, as cruise
lines charge up to 200% for solo travellers to
make up for revenue they lose by not
having an extra person buying drinks and
shopping onboard. But there is hope, some
cruise lines including Norwegian Cruise Line,
Fred Olsen Cruises and Costa Cruises have
specially designed single cabins, which are
generally priced for solo passengers and
don’t incur the massive mark-ups.
• Cunard, Holland America Line (HAL),
Silversea, Silversea and Crystal Cruises all
offer the services of a dancing partner for
solo cruisers, whilst generally HAL and
Silversea will also host a solo traveller
cocktail party during the voyage.
• Look for voyages which include onboard
activities such as food demonstrations that
make it easy to meet people, but don’t
require you to bring a friend.
