The remote and little-known Mergui Islands of Burma – visited by only 1700 visitors a year – will provide a pristine backdrop for a new sailing cruise offered by Australian tour company, Active Travel.
Boasting more than 800 idyllic islands, the Andaman Sea archipelago sees an average of just two people visit each island a year.
On a luxurious, eight-passenger yacht, Australians can discover Mergui Islands’ white, deserted beaches lined with palm trees, dense jungles filled with monkeys and hornbills and colourful coral reefs, with the opportunity to also meet local villagers, spot dolphins off the bow, fish for tuna and enjoy the catch of the day at beach barbecues.
Guests on this exclusive, new ‘Sailing the Mergui Islands’ cruise will live it up for five nights aboard the yacht, Meta IV. Built in 1998 as a private yacht for a wealthy Swiss businessman, the air-conditioned vessel has been restored to its former glory and accommodates just eight passengers who are pampered by four crew.
The six-day, round-trip cruise from the southern Burmese port of Kawthaung is available on 23 departure dates between October, 2014, and April, 2015, and is priced from €1800 per person, twin-share, including all onboard meals, welcome drinks, sunset drinks each day, shore excursions and sea kayaking.
Active Travel is also offering new, longer 12-day cruises aboard Meta IV on various sectors of its Spice Island cruise between Burma and Borneo from May to September this year.
