Leading Fiji adventure tour, Sigatoka River Safari, has just reached a record number of jet boat Captains with two more, including Fiji’s second ever female driver, joining the Sigatoka River Safari team.
New Jet Boat Captain recruits, Josephine “JT” Traill and Inoke “Nox” Qorovakarua have joined their four counterparts after passing intense jet boat training in Southland, New Zealand under the tutelage of former World Marathon Jet Boat Champion and jet boat veteran Neil Ross. Neil has trained all of Sigatoka River Safari’s Captains and has even custom built the safari jet boats.
On their return from New Zealand the pair underwent their final training session in Fiji along the mighty Sigatoka River, which they will be working on. They both passed with flying colours and this made Josephine the lone female jet boat Captain and Sigatoka River Safari’s second ever female driver.
Captain “JT” was previously employed by the Sigatoka River Safari’s sister tour, the Off Road Caves Safari, and she has already started working on the river alongside the other Captains on the jet boat affectionately called “Karua”.
“I really enjoyed working as a guide with the Off-Road Cave Safari, but when this opportunity came along I was only too happy to accept and so far I love being out on the river every day and just seeing how much fun the passengers have.” Said Captain JT.
Captain Nox has been with the company for four years as the Workshop Assistant and is quite happy that he can now drive the vessels he serviced.
“I enjoyed working on the jet boats, but I’m now very happy to have a certificate that states I can drive them too. I also think I have a slight advantage over the other captains, as I know these vessels inside and out”. Says Nox.
Jay Whyte, Managing Director of Sigatoka River Safari is also very pleased the duo has joined his Captains team.
“I say this on behalf of the team, we’re quite proud to have both Josephine and Nox pass with flying colours, as the rivers down South of New Zealand are not easy to navigate. They are both an asset to our team. ”
