Stéphanie Bishop, managing director of Avalon Waterways for Canada, is delighted to announce the company’s newest godmother: Canadian singing and songwriting legend Jann Arden. Arden will christen the Avalon Tranquility II at a ceremony in Strasbourg, France on April 2 next year.
“We are delighted that Jann agreed to undertake this role,” says Bishop. “For the first time, this christening will be an all-Canadian event with all guests on board coming from Canada including media and travel industry representatives.” The Panorama-class Tranquility II will join 14 other Avalon ships sailing the rivers of Europe and will accommodate just 128 passengers in contemporary comfort.
Alberta-born Arden has released 12 albums with 19 top ten singles, is an eight-time Juno award winner and a proud recipient of a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. She is also an author of note and a broadcaster.
“I can’t tell you how whimsical and wonderful it will be to act as the godmother of the beautiful ship Tranquility II this April!” says Arden. “What an amazing adventure to partake in and such an honour for me. I look forward to meeting everyone and celebrating the christening of this glorious new vessel.”
During the ceremony, Arden will smash the traditional bottle of champagne against the ship’s hull, make a speech to christen the ship and convey her best wishes to all the crew as well as present and future passengers. After the christening, the Tranquility II will sail itineraries through Holland, France, Germany and Switzerland.
