A new tour to be hosted in India by Cruise Express this November will take Australians to the palaces and forts of Rajasthan and along one of India’s holiest rivers, the Brahmaputra, shadowed by the Himalayas in the remote, north-east of the country.
Departing Australia on November 6, 2015, the 19-night cruise tour will include a visit to the famed Taj Mahal, sights featured in the popular ‘Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ films and a two-night stay at Udaipur’s iconic and opulent hotel, the Taj Lake Palace, which starred in the 1983 James Bond movie, Octopussy.
The tour begins with a nine-night land tour in India from Delhi to the sprawling and ornate palaces and forts of Rajasthan, including attractions in the colourful cities of Udaipur and Jaipur. Highlights include a rickshaw ride to Mahatma Ghandi’s house, an elephant safari near Jaipur, a jeep ride through villages near Samode and a morning visit to the World Heritage-listed Taj Mahal in Agra. Guests will stay each night in some of India’s most luxurious hotels.
After the land tour, passengers will fly from Delhi to the picturesque state of Assam in far north-eastern India where they will board the 46-passenger river boat, mv Mahabaahu, for an exotic seven-night cruise from Jorhat to Guwahati along the holy Brahmaputra River. In the shadow of the 7400m-high, snow-capped Himalayas, the river meanders past tea estates, tribal villages, monasteries and ancient palaces. Tours ashore include a wildlife safari in search of the region’s wild tigers, rhinos and elephants.
After the cruise, two nights are spent in Kolkata, with a city tour that includes a visit to the home of Mother Teresa.
Including flights from Australia and flights within India and 20 meals during the land tour, the 19-night ‘India and the Brahmaputra’ package is available from $9990 per person, twin-share.
At the end of the India tour, a seven-night, add-on tour of Bhutan is also available from an extra $6290 per person, twin-share, including flight connections, all meals, deluxe accommodation and extensive touring in the kingdom.
