With 2015 marking the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta – or Great Charter – there is still time to get in the commemorative mood this season and take a 6-night cruise aboard European Waterways’ luxury hotel barge, Magna Carta.
At a leisurely pace the Magna Carta cruises along the picturesque River Thames, between Hampton Court Palace and Henley, cruising past the historic site of the sealing of the Great Charter at Runnymede, at a bucolic water-meadow alongside the river. After passing the Magna Carta Memorial and Magna Carta Island, the hotel barge continues on to Windsor and a tour of the castle. Other excursions during the cruise include the Tudor manor house of Dorney Court, Cliveden with its glorious gardens and the Stanley Spencer gallery in the riverside village of Cookham.
With a maximum capacity of 8 people, the Magna Carta hotel barge proves popular with guests who charter the whole barge exclusively for their own family celebrations. Easily accessible by road and rail, meeting/drop-points are in central London – for transferring to/from the barge on the Thames.
Guests are pampered by a crew of four, including the Master Chef who takes great pride in producing a range of mouth-watering British dishes using the best fresh ingredients, including specialist cheeses, all accompanied by fine wines served with care by the attentive hostesses.
Full barge charter pricing: AU$38,910 (€26,600) for 6 passengers; AU$42,420 (€29,000) for 8 passengers; or from AU$4,900 (€3,350) per person sharing a suite.
Approximately half of European Waterways’ bookings are for whole boat charters. The small passenger capacity offers a unique opportunity for groups of friends or family to enjoy their own bespoke private cruise. Alternatively, clients book a cabin independently to join the floating house party, with like-minded travellers.
