Aurora Expeditions has released a new short film showcasing the awe-inspiring landscapes and mesmerising wildlife of Antarctica and South Georgia. Captured by award-winning cinematographer Abraham Joffe, the film highlights an inspirational journey of travelling to Antarctica aboard their small ship expedition, Polar Pioneer.
The five-minute piece portrays the grandeur of Antarctica’s giant icebergs and grandeur landscapes. Penguin’s porpoise through icy waters and seals fill South Georgia’s sandy beaches. One of the world’s largest King Penguins rookeries in South Georgia is described as a photographer’s dream.
Ice cracks spectacularly as the ship’s bow pushes its way through the pack ice, venturing deeper into the remote wilderness of the Weddell Sea to discover a rich history of exploration and adventure. Old, abandoned buildings and erected monuments create a sense of travelling back in time, discovering a place that was once near inaccessible.
Aurora Expeditions’ team of expert guides emphasise their passion for the region through on and off screen dialogue.
“It’s not just about nature and landscape, you’re going to see the sun and the moon in the sky together, setting and rising… Everything is so much cleaner and sharper and highlighted in Antarctica.” says Dr Ben Maddison, Antarctic historian.
“People think of Antarctica as just being this pristine environment, untouched by man, but there’s a real history and when you go you find that history around every curve, every cove and every bay.” says photographer, Peter Eastway.
