Flower Show and Garden themed cruises on board Magna Carta
To celebrate the Year of the English Garden, passengers can join European Waterways, Europe’s largest luxury hotel barging company, on garden and flower show themed cruises aboard the elegant hotel barge Magna Carta.
The themed cruises, departing May 22 and July 3, 2016, coincide with the 300th anniversary of the birth of England’s greatest landscape designer. Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown changed the face of 18th century England, designing the formal gardens of magnificent country estates and mansions and creating flowing lakes and serpentine rivers.
On board Magna Carta, guests will cruise the picturesque upper reaches of the River Thames and discover garden delights such as the Royal gardens and maze at Hampton Court Palace and the famous Kew Gardens. The themed itinerary also includes a visit to the magnificent Cliveden Estate and Gardens, former home of Lord and Lady Astor. The estate boasts amazing views and incredible gardens first laid out in the 18th century.
A major highlight for guests on the May 22 departure will be the chance to visit the renowned Chelsea Flower Show. Spend the day exploring the colour filled stands and amazing arrangements created by nurseries, societies and charities.
Other excursions during each cruise include visiting the stunning Savill Garden, which covers 1,500 hectares in Royal Windsor Great Park and a fascinating tour of Oxford’s grandest college, Christ Church, where Lewis Carrol wrote Alice in Wonderland.
The six-night cruises aboard Magna Carta departing May 22 or July 3 are €4,250 (AU$6,195) per person and €31,300 (AU$45,605) for full barge charter for 8 passengers. With a maximum capacity of eight people, the hotel barge is popular for charter bookings whether for a group of friends or family celebrations.
For lovers of the ever-popular TV series, Downton Abbey, Magna Carta will also be offering a private visit to Highclere Castle on other cruise departures in March, April and May 2016.
