MSC Poesia’s inaugural port call to Grand
Bahama (Port Lucaya) lost some of its glamour
when the vessel ran aground on an unmarked
sandbar 3.2kms off the coast of the island.
According to reports, the 93,300-tonne
vessel got stuck at around 6am on Saturday 07
January during a three-night charter cruise, but
was freed from the reef with the help of four
tugboats later that evening during hightide.
Guests however did manage to depart the
vessel and explore the island and attend their
shore excursions via the use of a previously
scheduled tender service.
“The ship and its guests were always
completely safe and all onboard equipment,
and services continued to operate normally” a
statement from MSC said.
Following is disinterment from the sandbar
Poesia managed to arrive for its next scheduled
port of call, Little San Salvador on time.
Speaking about the ship in the wake of the
accident, MSC allayed fears saying “everything
onboard MSC Poesia is operating normally”.
