José Carreras will be hitting high C’s on the high seas on BRAVO! Cruise of the Performing Arts 2017, a tour of the South Pacific run by Australia’s leading music-themed charter company Choose Your Cruise.
Guests of BRAVO! will be privileged to hear one of the final performances of this celebrated Spanish tenor, who is embarking on his Farewell World Tour in 2017.
Carreras has been a superstar among opera fans since the 1970s, when he made a series of thunderous debuts in the great Italian tenor roles, performing under the likes of Herbert von Karajan, Ricardo Muti and Leonard Bernstein at La Scala, Covent Garden and The Metropolitan Opera. He became a household name in the 1990s as one of The Three Tenors, alongside Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, who remain the best-selling classical music ensemble of all time.
Carreras said, “Music is the great love of my life, and I am excited to be sharing some of my favourite music with the guests of Bravo. Singing on a cruise around the South Pacific is one of the few things I have yet to do as a concert artist. I am hugely looking forward to this new experience.”
Joining Carreras on stage will be internationally renowned Conductor Maestro David Giménez. His talent demonstrates first-class conducting experience from an incredibly prestigious career leading some of the world’s most distinguished orchestras and soloists at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Salle Pleyel, Vienna Konzerthaus, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and Sydney Opera House.
Across his career Giménez has appeared on podiums leading world-class performances by many leading national and independent orchestras and symphonies the world over. As a frequent collaborator with famous singers in acclaimed operatic productions including Carreras, Plácido Domingo and Kiri Te Kanawa, the powerful combination of Giménez and Carreras at Bravo 2017 will showcase the magnificent sophistication of their preeminent international careers.
It has also been announced that five-time Logie Award winning television personality Ray Martin will also be joining Bravo 2017 as Special Guest, much to the delight of his Australian fans. The celebrated TV icon, well known as host of 60 Minutes, A Current Affair and Four Corners, will be presenting an In Conversation With Ray Martin segment sharing some of the most fascinating moments of his career with his journalistic photographic collection. He will also be interviewing artists on board to give a behind-the-scenes look into the lives of the world-class talent on board.
Carreras and Giménez will be joined by a host of stellar talent from the worlds of opera, performing arts and classical music. Australia’s own favourite tenor David Hobson (Ambassador of BRAVO!) will be performing alongside some of Opera Australia’s brightest stars, soprano Taryn Fiebig, bass Jud Arthur, tenors Christopher Hillier and Martin Buckingham, and mezzo Tania Ferris.
Three of Australia’s most glamorous music theatre divas will also be puttin’ on the ritz aboard BRAVO! 2017. Marina Prior, who toured Australasia with Carreras in 1994, will be joined by Silvie Paladino and Julie Goodwin. Star of The Voice Emma Pask will also bring her unique jazz style to the musical smorgasbord.
ARIA-award winning brothers Joseph and James Tawadros, who play an eclectic fusion of world music on Egyptian instruments, will add a touch of spice to the proceedings. And returning to BRAVO! in 2017 is choirmaster extraordinaire Jonathon Welch, best known as the star of ABC’s The Choir of Hard Knocks.
The Metropolitan Orchestra will accompany this dazzling array of artists, conducted by well-known maestro and radio personality Guy Noble.
This exceptional series of performances will unfold across seven nights in a setting of total indulgence aboard the Royal Caribbean’s luxury cruise liner, Radiance of the Seas from October 31 to November 7, 2017. The ship boasts a 1000-seat theatre, as well as a nine-story central atrium, a gymnasium, cinema, several swimming pools and a range of quality dining options.
BRAVO! departs from Sydney and visits jewels of the South Pacific – Isle of Pines and Noumea.
