In 2017, guests travelling on Scenic’s 12 night cruise on the Rhône and Saône through the south of France will experience one of the award winning travel operator’s newest Scenic Enrich events – Scenic Rouge.
Launched this year in Scenic’s 2017 Hidden Wonders of Europe River Cruising program, Scenic Rouge is an exclusive performance inspired by the finest French cabaret traditions.
Performed exclusively under Scenic’s big top on the banks of the Rhône River in Lyon, guests will be treated to a vibrant and colourful stage spectacular showcasing performances of the classics such as the can-can, and modern-day favourites including aerial acrobatics, comedians, magicians and more. Guests will enjoy their entrée and main meals served on board their luxury Scenic Space-Ship before stepping ashore to enjoy this exclusive production curated for Scenic guests only, from the comfort of intimate table seating where delectable dessert canapés and digestifs will be served throughout the performance.
Scenic’s Journey Designers travel to the region every year and search extensively for new product and experiences to showcase the local culture and traditions within their itineraries. These trips often inspire the creation of new and unique experiences which enables Scenic to offer exclusive activities and events that have been handpicked for its guests.
Talking about the show’s creation, Tiffany Watters Journey Designer Europe, commented: “The idea for this show came to me when I was last in France and whilst sipping coffee in a local café I witnessed a mother ushering her young daughter – proudly bouncing along the sidewalk in her pink tutu – into her dance class. The creation of this show really was born from that moment, with the thought of where those dance classes may lead that little girl in a country of opportunities such as France.
“My team and I then set about the task of pulling together the ultimate stage spectacular, with the aim to showcase the very best of traditional French stage shows with dazzling can-can dancers adorned in extravagant glittering costumes, and illuminating the warmth and diversity of the French culture in the form of mime, comedy and magic.
We are excited to share the final product with our guests as of next April. By then the team would have spent two years working on the show – from concept development, castings, rehearsals, costume creation, dessert and digestif menu selection and set up.”
Guests travelling on Scenic’s 13 Day South of France river cruise will enjoy Scenic Rouge as one of the two Scenic Enrich events throughout the cruise.
